“Stir­ring The Pot” is a col­lec­tion of seve­ral works that deal with unpaid care work and the chal­len­ges of gen­der equa­li­ty. It con­sists of self-por­trai­ts, a tex­ti­le work, two videos, and text. The col­lec­tion chal­len­ges the viewe­r’s per­cep­tion of gen­der norms and ste­reo­ty­pes by pro­vo­king the social con­struc­ts we live in, sho­wing the strug­gle for gen­der equa­li­ty whi­le highlighting the over­loo­ked and under­va­lued natu­re of care work. This also extends to the the­me of sup­po­sed self-care and the phy­si­cal and emo­tio­nal pain women often endu­re under the gui­se of loo­king after them­sel­ves. The inspi­ra­tion for this pro­ject came from my outra­ge at a sexi­st com­ment made by a man who tried to tell me some­thing about patriar­chy and wome­n’s bio­lo­gy in it. Sin­ce then, I have used various forms to appro­pria­te and express my rage in patriar­chal spa­ces and pla­ces.
