“Stirring The Pot” is a collection of several works that deal with unpaid care work and the challenges of gender equality. It consists of self-portraits, a textile work, two videos, and text. The collection challenges the viewer’s perception of gender norms and stereotypes by provoking the social constructs we live in, showing the struggle for gender equality while highlighting the overlooked and undervalued nature of care work. This also extends to the theme of supposed self-care and the physical and emotional pain women often endure under the guise of looking after themselves. The inspiration for this project came from my outrage at a sexist comment made by a man who tried to tell me something about patriarchy and women’s biology in it. Since then, I have used various forms to appropriate and express my rage in patriarchal spaces and places.
